Taking exhaustion seriously

Do not override exhaustion: review demands, allow genuine recovery and seek appropriate support in time.

What may be happening

Exhaustion is more than an unproductive day. It can affect physical, emotional and mental energy.

Persistent exhaustion can have different causes and cannot be diagnosed by a knowledge page.

What provides orientation

Short-term rest helps only when the strain does not continue unchanged.

Persistent, increasing or unexplained exhaustion should be discussed with an appropriate medical or mental-health professional.

What may help right now

  1. 1

    Secure the basics

Start with sleep, regular food, fluids and gentle movement without a performance target.

  2. 2

    Review the strain

For one week note what drains energy and what genuinely restores it.

  3. 3

    Question inner rules

Examine statements such as “I must not disappoint anyone” or “I have to push through”.

  4. 4

    Protect recovery

Plan free time without a hidden work list or a duty to optimise yourself.

  5. 5

    Speak early

Tell a trusted or qualified person how long and how strongly the exhaustion has affected you.

What you can do today

  • Reduce one unnecessary demand today.
  • Protect one uninterrupted period of rest.
  • Arrange professional advice if symptoms persist.

What matters in the longer term

Sustainable recovery needs suitable demands, boundaries and a daily life that does not continually empty every reserve.

Return to heavier demands gradually and respond to warning signs.

Questions that may help

  • How long have I felt this exhausted?
  • What genuinely restores energy?
  • Which expectation keeps the strain in place?

What is less likely to help

  • Trying to defeat exhaustion with discipline.
  • Filling all free time with duties.
  • Minimising physical or emotional warning signs.
