Dealing with overwhelm

When everything feels too much: sort the pressure, choose the next manageable step and protect your available energy.

By · from years of consultation and podcast practice

What may be happening

Overwhelm often appears when demands, uncertainty and available energy no longer fit together.

The mind begins treating many things as equally urgent, making priorities harder and increasing pressure.

What provides orientation

Orientation begins with relief and sequence, not with more speed.

Persistent severe exhaustion or acute warning signs deserve suitable professional support.

Manuel's practical tip

Manuel's practical tip

Give your mind a “landing strip”: everything may land on paper, but only one item receives clearance to take off. This creates order without requiring you to solve everything.

Try it this way:

  1. 1

For three minutes, write down every open item without sorting.

  2. 2

Mark each one T: needed today, L: later, or N: not mine.

  3. 3

Circle exactly one T action that you can begin within ten minutes.

What may help right now

  1. 1

    Pause briefly

Breathe out longer than you breathe in and stop trying to solve everything for two minutes.

  2. 2

    Make it visible

Write down every open item so your mind no longer has to hold the entire list.

  3. 3

    Use three categories

Sort tasks into necessary today, later and not my responsibility.

  4. 4

    Choose the smallest step

Define an action you can begin within ten minutes.

  5. 5

    Name the support

Ask specifically for information, a decision or practical help.

What you can do today

  • Drink something and step away from the screen for five minutes.
  • Deliberately remove or postpone one task today.
  • Do only the first step of the most important task.

What matters in the longer term

Review demand and recovery before your reserves are empty.

Reliable boundaries and realistic commitments protect you better than repeated emergency efforts.

Questions that may help

  • What genuinely needs to happen today?
  • What am I trying to carry alone?
  • Which task is allowed to become smaller?

What is less likely to help

  • Starting everything at once.
  • Tying your worth to the amount completed.
  • Allowing rest only after everything is done.
